Obituary of Dorothy "Doris" Ackerley

Dorothy “Doris” (Brownell), Ackerley passed away on April 29, 2024, in Cooperstown. 

She was born in Jefferson NY on February 4, 1937 to Stewart & Anna (Burton) Brownell.

Doris attended school in Worcester and Charlotte Valley and after graduating worked at the former Story House Corp in Charlotteville NY.

She married John Ackerley on May 12, 1956 in Delhi.

She loved to travel. (John not so much), Doris has been to Germany, Las Vegas, Nebraska and more.  She spent her winters in North Carolina with friends.  Doris loved puzzles and playing bingo.

Besides her parents, She was predeceased by her husband: John; son: Dennis; and her sisters Betty and Lucy. 

Doris is survived by sisters: Hope (Mike) Zeh of Central Bridge and Dawn (Dick) Allen of Amsterdam; brother: Paul (Darlene) Brownell of Milford; her daughters: Jill Ackerley (William Young) and Jodi Clapper both of Charlotteville and Paula (LaVerne) Morrell of Franklin; son-in-law: Steve (Lori) Fyfe; grandchildren: Steven (Christine) Fyfe, Shawna Fyfe, Hunter Clapper, Waylon (Janelle) Morell, Danille Allison and Wyatt (Tiffany) Morrell; great-grandkids: Victoria, Brea, Noah Fyfe, Terrence, Jazmine Whitehead, Aidan, Lily, Flynn, Kash, Makayla, Karis, Hailey and Wyatt JR Morel; great-great-grandkids: Gideon and Kinsley Fyfe; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.

Her great-grandkids called her "GG" and Doris inherited more grandkids over the years.

A celebration of Doris’s life will be held at 1PM on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Charlotteville Fire Station with Pastor Ken Zulkosky officiating.
