Obituary of Donald W. Reed
Donald W. Reed, 81, of Taylor Rd., passed away at his home on Saturday evening, November 19, 2016, surrounded by his family, following a long illness.
Born on April 17, 1935 in Stamford, the son of the late Ivan J. and Lavilla Mae (Wright) Reed.
Donald proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, enlisting in 1954, until his honorable discharge in 1957.
He was married to his wife or over 58 years, Elizabeth Ann Marschilok Reed on October 19, 1958 in Hobart.
Donald was a truck driver, retiring from Delwood Foods of Delhi after over 25 years of service.
Mr. Reed was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, especially rabbit hunting, fishing and snowmobiling; he enjoyed riding motorcycles, cooking out year around, playing horseshoes and Donald played softball in several local leagues. Above all else, Donald loved his family, sharing his joy for the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren fishing.
Donald is survived by his wife: Elizabeth Reed of Stamford; four sons: Ivan (Kim) Reed of Jefferson, David (Marlene) Reed of Stamford, John (Tammy) Reed of Jefferson and William (Brandy) Reed of Harpersfield; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one sister: Marjorie Chase of Milford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents: Donald was predeceased by a sister: Doris Barber.
Graveside services will be held at 11AM on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Stamford Cemetery, Stamford, with the Rev. Waylen Bray officiant.
