Obituary of Shirley U. Germond

CONESVILLE Shirley U. Germond, 76, of Conesville, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2013 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, with her family surrounding her. Shirley was born in Hobart, the daughter of Parker and Julia Utter. Shirley's siblings were Shelia, James, and Ronald Utter. Shirley married Russell C. Germond on September 26, 1954. They owned and operated a family dairy farm for many years in the town of Conesville. After retiring from the dairy business, Shirley worked at Robinson Terrace in Stamford in the dietary department. She retired from Robinson Terrace in October of 2003. Following retirement, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling on senior bus trips, reading Danielle Steel novels, working in her flower gardens, and completing word puzzles. Shirley is survived by her husband, Russell, of nearly 59 years; her children and grandchildren, Barry and Tyler Germond of Manchester, New Hampshire, Denise Germond and Lyndsea Hart of Pulaski, New York; and her sister, Shelia Gifford of Stamford. Calling hours will take place on Monday, June 10, 2013 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Conesville Methodist Church, Conesville, with Rev. Dottie Morris officiating. Burial will follow at the Manorkill Cemetery, Manorkill. A gathering for Shirley's friends and family will take place at the Conesville Fire Hall after the burial service.
