Condolences
I am sorry to read about the loss of Pauline. She was a pillar of faith and a wonderful example of how to be a caring, warm human being. I grew up in the Methodist Church and knew her very well during those years. May God bless you at this time.
Dear Lois and John, I was so sorry to hear that your Mom had passed away. She was like an East -West link between the MacArthur and Hebbard families. Your Dad shared my birthday and your parents warmly welcomed us into their home whether I showed up with Aunt Helen and Uncle Bill in 1957; in a camper as kids with our family (1965); as a first year teacher (1972); or with my daughter for Hartwick College (2001). The New York to California connection started before 1939 because my mother, Frankie, was in the same class at Hartwick as Pauline. Dad (Hebbard), who of course was your dad, Herb's 1st cousin, mentioned that when he was giving a talk as student body president, he remembers looking down and seeing your mom and Elinor sitting in the audience. That's a 78 year memory! I remember delicious pies, the Hereford and Holstein calves, corn on the cob, visits to the Methodist Church, and hearing your dad sing in the choir. I am so glad to have those memories. Thanks for sharing your mom with us, Lois. We are all that much richer for having both your parents in our lives.
We were so lucky to have had people like Pauline as role models as we were growing up. I will always remember the look on my Dad's face when he was ill and Pauline would show up with one of her special pies. She lit up the room with her beautiful eyes and her smile.
