Obituary of Arnold Omland

MARYLAND, NY Arnold "Arnie" Omland (57) passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7th, 2014, surrounded by his loved ones at his Maryland, NY home. Arnie was born in Oswego, NY, grew up in Cobleskill, graduated CHS class of '74 and earned a degree in Chemistry from SUNY-Cobleskill. His love of freedom and entrepreneurship led him to work alongside his late father Jacob and brother, John-Erik, resurfacing wood floors and bowling centers. He developed into a skilled craftsman and the successful business owner of Arnold Omland Sanding Company, now run by his step-son Adam Scudder. Arnie felt life and emotions deeply and was loved by everyone he touched for his professionalism, humor and respect for people, nature and the world. He was as comfortable behind a floor-sanding machine as he was doing a Michael Jackson move to a favorite tune. Arnie's parents, Astrid and Jacob Omland, both deceased, emigrated from Norway and that "old world" charm and respect ran deep in his character. He will be greatly missed by many friends and professionals in his industry. He is survived by his wife, Allison Jones, his son Nathan Omland, best friend and brother John-Erik Omland, two step-sons Adam and Jeremy Scudder and his four young granddaughters Hailey, Sascha, Micah, and Tesla. His life and memory will be celebrated on Sunday July 13th, 2014 from 1to 5pm at the Schenevus VFW hall.
