Obituary of Florence Ann Govern
Florence Ann Govern, 99, of Stamford, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 following a short illness.
Born on September 12, 1917 in Stamford, Florence was the daughter of the late Matthew A. and Harriet (O'Brien) Govern.
She was a graduate of Stamford Seminary School and Ithaca College. Following her graduation, she became a physical education teacher for over 30 years retiring from Mahopac Central School District, and returning to Stamford in 1981.
Florence enjoyed traveling, dancing, driving her car, fishing and enjoying coffee with family and friends.
Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by her sister, Helen Sampson.
She is survived by her brother: Robert M. Govern of Florida; nieces and nephews: Kay (Robert) Nixon of Florida, Robert A. (Karen) Govern of Florida; Jessica (Scott) Sampson of Arizona, Matthew (Yoshica) Sampson of Katona, Lydia Sampson of Arizona and Mark Sampson of Newburgh; several cousins also survive.
A prayer service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at MacArthur Funeral Home, 40 Cornell Ave., Hobart. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.
