Obituary of Charles D. Buck

Charles D. Buck, 77, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at his home in Jefferson, NY surrounded by his family. Charles was born on June 17, 1937 to Charles N. and Evelyn J. Buck of Jefferson. He attended Jefferson Central School and studied Agricultural Science at Cornell University. After returning to the family dairy farm on North Road, he married Lynn Manning in 1959, and together they raised four children. A lifelong resident of Jefferson, he was a successful dairy farmer and was active in the maple business for more than 50 years. In retirement, he enjoyed working at the East End Garage and following the stock market. Charles' hobbies included working, hunting, talking on the phone, going for ice cream, going gator-riding to the campground and visiting friends around town. Charles served his community as Jefferson Town Supervisor and as a member of the Catskill Watershed Corporation BOD. He served on a number of committees including the Schoharie County Maple Festival Committee, Jefferson Heritage Day Committee and the Republican Committee. Charles is survived by his two sisters, Ellen Strong of Salt Lake City and Doris Veith of Cobleskill as well as his aunt, Hazel Freeley of Mastic, NY. His four children: JoAnn (James) Little of Hobart, Dan (Tammy) Buck of Jefferson and Sharon(Jeff) Collins of Jefferson and six grandchildren: Chase and Benjamin Buck, Sam and Charlotte Collins, Callan and Daniel Little. Charles if predeceased by his wife, Lynn, his son CJ and his sister Donna Nelson. Calling hours will take place on Friday, May 29, 2015 from 2-9pm at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, NY. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 10:00am in the Jefferson United Methodist Church, Jefferson, New York with Rev. Dottie Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Jefferson, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles's memory may be made to the Charles D.
