Obituary of Eleanor Stoeckel
Eleanor D Stoeckel, 95, of Bloomville, passed away on Thursday, Nov 5, 2015 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.
She was the third daughter of Jesse and Luella Dibble.
After graduating from the Bloomville High School, Eleanor attended the Kingston Business School, and upon graduation worked as a bookkeeper in Kingston, for the Mirror Recorder newspaper in Stamford, and then for the Ed Foote livestock enterprise in Hobart.
She married Gerald Stoeckel on April 17, 1946, in South Kortright. Gerald and Eleanor operated the Busy Acres dairy farm near Bloomville for 30 years, won many state and national awards for their herd production, and sold animals worldwide. They enjoyed travelling in both the US and several trips to Europe. After retirement, they spent many happy evenings playing cards with their friends, and attending the various meetings and outings of the Hobart Senior Club.
Eleanor was also an Elections Inspector for the Democrats in the Town of Stamford for many years.
Eleanor was a member of the Hill City Church in Oneonta (formerly Susquehanna Valley Baptist Church).
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Gerald; her parents, her brother Leslie, and her sisters, Dorothy and Marion.
Eleanor is survived by her son Glenn, daughter Mary, daughter LeeAnne (David) Pinnow, granddaughter Virginia (Derek) Detweiler and their 3 sons, and granddaughter Anna (Bryan) Payne. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be at 1PM on Monday, Nov 9, 2015 at South Kortright Community Church, with her pastor, Rev Bruce McCardel, officiating.
Calling hours will be Sunday evening, Nov 8, 2015, from 5 to 7 pm, at MacArthur Funeral Home in Hobart, NY.
