Obituary of John J. Buzek

John J. Buzek, 88, of South Kortright, passed away on Monday evening, January 4, 2015 at AO Fox Hospital, Oneonta. He was married to Susan Decker Buzek. Born on February 9, 1927 in Paris, France, He was the son of the late Mary Buzek. He was a Roman Catholic. John proudly served in the US Army during WWII. John spent most of his life living with his family in Rockland County, working at the Orangeburg Fiber. In 1966 he settled in South Kortright with his former wife Clara "Joanie" Buzek. He was employed for many years for the bridge crew for the New York State Dept. of Transportation in Delhi until his retirement. John also was a member of the Delhi American Legion Post #190. John was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting deer and turkey. He was a gardener and kept meticulous flower beds at his home. He also enjoyed cooking and baking, often sharing his recipes with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes. Above all else, John was a genuine and generous gentleman. Besides his wife Susan, John is survived by daughters: Maryann Buzek of Schenevus and Linda Crandall of Jefferson; grandchildren: Melissa (Joseph) Kanarek of North Carolina, Michael Crandall of Jefferson, David (Kim) Crandall of Warnerville, Steven (Jamie) Crandall of California, and Albena (Nathan) Thomas of Japan; Kim Decker of Nyack & Katie Schroer of Nyack. great-grandchildren: Derek, Karly, Linda, Chelsea, Madison, Ashley, Makenzie and Landon, Kolby, Ana, Jase; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter: Carleena Buzek; brother: James McDermott; sisters: Albena Riggs and Margaret Frontino, and one nephew: John Riggs. Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 11AM-1PM at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 40 Cornell Ave., Hobart. Where a prayer service will be held at 1PM following the visitation.
