Obituary of Martha L. Barrett

Martha L. Barrett, 65, of Davenport passed away on Friday evening, January 15, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 9, 1950 in Delhi, Martha was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Frances Gardner Brown. Martha had worked a telephone operator for Verizon for several years until illness forced her to retire. She was an active member of the Davenport United Methodist Church, where she was president of the Women's Club. Martha enjoyed crafts of all kinds, she was talented in crocheting and quilting and loved sharing her works of art with family and friends. Above all else she loved her family, Martha was a devoted wife and a proud mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband: Gary Barrett of Davenport; children: Frances (Ken) Stone of Oneonta and Tina (Bill) Gillespie of Greenwood, IN; grandchildren: Garrett Barrett (USMC) of Japan, Savannah and Samantha Stone, Ariel Barrett of Davenport, and Kiraki and Nolana-Reann Gillespie; sisters: Sylvia Pardee of DeLancey, Shirley Brown of Montana, Elsie Wright of DeLancey, Patricia Brown of Oneonta, and Alma Winner of Andes; and several brother and sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be held at 11AM on Friday May 6th at North Kortright Cemetery, North Kortright Church Rd., Davenport. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Martha may be made to Catskill Area Hospice or to the Davenport United Methodist Church. Arrangements are with MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, NY
