Obituary of William J. Dibble
William J. (Bill) Dibble, 73, passed away at his home in Middleburgh on Thursday, March 3, 2016.
Bill was born on April 7, 1942 in Leonardsville, the son of William A. and Alta M. (Oliver) Dibble.
His childhood years were spent on the family farm in East Meredith. Bill then He graduated from Charlotte Valley Central School in Davenport.
In 1964, at 22 yrs old, Bill enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a crane/shovel operator with the Headquarters Company of the 27th Engineer Battalion, Third Army. He served his enlistment and was given an Honorable discharge at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in April of 1966.
After his military service, Bill returned to central New York and found work on farms in Delaware and Schoharie counties. On his retirement from farming, Bill continued to work as an auto parts delivery driver. After a few years he made the decision to fully retire.
Bill was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who also enjoyed working on cars and trucks. He liked to take what he called "Sunday drives" to visit family and friends. Bill also enjoyed country and western dancing, listening to country music and watching westerns. He was also a John Wayne fan.
Bill is survived by his step mother, Wanda Dibble of East Meredith; his sister, Dona (Dale) Hoyt of Sidney; his daughter, Janet (Alex) Ross of Davenport; his granddaughter Alexandria Ross of Davenport and various aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Myrl A. Dibble.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 1-3PM on Saturday, March 19 at MacArthur Funeral Home, 40 Cornell Ave, Hobart, where a memorial service will follow at 3PM at the funeral home.
