Obituary of Richard W. Sanford
Richard W. Sanford, 80, of Bloomville, passed away suddenly Monday morning, March 14, 2016 at his home.
Born on June 1, 1935 at the family farm in Bloomville, he was the son of Marion T. and Ellen L. (Zeller) Sanford.
Richard was a graduate of Delaware Academy and was a Corrections Officer for several years at the Delaware County Sheriff's Department in Delhi.
He was an avid outdoorsman, Richard enjoyed hunting, even traveling to Colorado for elk and mule deer hunts, fly fishing the local rivers and streams and making trips to Pulaski for the salmon runs became a yearly tradition. Richard was a firearm enthusiast and enjoyed competing with the Delhi Pistol Club. He also liked bowling and was a member of a league for years. He also enjoyed camping trips to Forestport to "recharge his batteries". In his later years Richard would meet up with his friends daily at the Delhi Diner where they would solve the world's problems over breakfast.
He was predeceased by his father, Marion T. Sanford.
Richard is survived by his mother: Ellen L. Sanford; sisters: Susan (Richard) Pearson of Delhi, Marie Parenteau of Weston, FL and Ellen (Doug Whittaker) O'Hara of East Meredith; his brother: Robert (Mary) Sanford of Delhi; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11AM, Friday May 27, 2016 at Woodland Cemetery in Delhi. Arrangements are with MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.
