Obituary of Loreen H. Rich
Loreen H. Rich, 91, of Delhi, passed away peacefully at her home early Monday morning, Jan. 27, 2014.
Born Sept. 10, 1922 in Bloomville, Loreen was the daughter of the late John S. and Susie (Lott) Hinkley, Sr.
She married Robert S. Rich, Jr. on April 15, 1942 at her home in Bloomville, a union that lasted 67 years, until Robert's passing on Dec. 17, 2009.
Loreen graduated with the last class of Bloomville School in 1939 and began working at Scintilla in Sidney. Through the years Loreen aided her husband in the operation of the family farm and worked at Delaware Academy in the school cafeteria and later as one of the district's first lady bus drivers. She also worked at Pete's Candy Kitchen in Delhi.
Loreen's love for the Lord was evident in her life. God gave her the heart of a caretaker and she joyfully used that gift to bless everyone around her. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.
Loreen is survived by three daughters: Shirley Tripp of Delhi, Marjorie Oliver (Robert) Paulman of Dansville and Nadine Stein of Delhi; a daughter-in-law: Barbara Cleaveland of Oneonta;
grandchildren: Christine (Martin) Rich-Reese, Matthew (Leisa) Tripp, Nathaniel (Corissa) Tripp, Jason (Cynthia) Oliver, Darcy (Jeffrey) Meyer, Leah (Kurt) Schmidt, Jared Stein and Alysha (Nick Falvo) Stein; great-grandchildren: Miranda Rich, Connor and Devin Reese, Miles and Mosley Tripp, Isaac and Elias Tripp, Jackson and Benjamin Oliver and Olivia Loreen Meyer; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Hinkley and Blanche Hinkley; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Robert, she was predeceased by her son, Donald Rich; sons-in-law: Albert Tripp, James Oliver and Wayne Stein; and siblings: Gertrude Sackett, Martha Brockway Dennis, Frances Bullis, John S. Hinkley, Jr. and Howard Hinkley.
Family and friends are invited to call 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm on Friday, January 31 at Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi. Funeral services will be at 11am on Saturday at the Tabernacle of the Congregation, on the Ouleout, with Mark Mallaber officiating, burial in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
