Obituary of Harold J. Johnson

Harold J. Johnson, 96, of Hamden, formerly of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 18, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born on April 25, 1918 in Brooklyn, Harold was the son of the late Walter and Emma (Smith) Johnson. He enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman 2nd Class. Following his service, Mr. Johnson worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard for over 25 years as a welder and iron worker. He later retired as a security guard from Chemical Bank in Manhattan, NY. Mr. Johnson was married on March 6, 1943 in Brooklyn, to his wife, Frances T. (Boorman) Johnson. They enjoyed over 71 years together. Harold enjoyed fishing and he especially liked saltwater fishing. Besides his wife, Harold is survived by three sons: Harold (Angela) Johnson of Stamford, Arthur G. (Deborah) Johnson of Toms River, NJ and Gerard F. (Barbara) Johnson of Hamden; grandchildren: Bernadette (Paul) Barnao, Stacey (Edward) Stevens, Steven (Florence), Christopher (Gina), Eric (Katie), Keith (Gina), and Jerry (Jessica) Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren, one sister: Mildred Duhs and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandson: Daniel Johnson; sisters: Lily Kraniec and Dorothy Green; and his brothers: George and Robert Johnson. Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family form 4-7pm on Tuesday, October 21 at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi. A Mass will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, October 22, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 134 ½ Main Street, Delhi, with The Rev. Darius Mojallali celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow at Hamden Cemetery.
