Obituary of James L. Thompson
James L. Thompson, 88, of Treadwell passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 27, 2015 at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.
Born on August 13, 1927 in Scotia, CA, James was the son of the late Louis and Winifred (Beach) Thompson.
James proudly served in the US Army during WWII.
He was married to Genevieve (Miner) Thompson on September, 1, 1962 in Andes, NY.
James worked for many years as a Mechanic for the Town of Hamden Highway Department. Over the years he also owned and operated his own bluestone quarry.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. James liked wood working and wood crafting. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, cross country skiing, digging for old bottles and liked having the companionship of several different dogs over the years.
Besides his beloved wife, Genevieve "Genny" Thompson of Treadwell, James is survived by three children: Terry (Glenn Williams) Wood of Meridale; Randy Thompson of Green and Eric Thompson of Treadwell; grandchildren: Nicole (Tyler) Huyck of Treadwell and Clinton Wood of Meridale; great-grandchildren: Emma and Abigail Huyck; siblings: Beth Roscoe of Unadilla, Ann Gavett of Walton, Lois Tait of DeLancey, Donald (Wanda) Thompson of Bainbridge, May (Robert) Miller of Franklin and Charles (Robin) Thompson of Andes; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services will be held at 3PM on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi with the Rev. Bert More, officiating. Friends are invited to call on the family one hour prior to the memorial at the funeral home.
