Obituary of Douglas R. Fancher

Douglas Robert Fancher, 74, of Stamford, formerly of Harpersfield, passed away on Sunday morning November 17, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.

Born on October 4, 1950 in Catskill, NY, Douglas was the son of the late Robert and Doris (Germond) Fancher.

He was a career over the road truck driver, owning and operating his own truck for many years until his retirement.

Doug enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and in his younger years trapping.  He enjoyed nature and all that it offered, more recently he enjoyed sitting on the porch watching out over the pasture at his home.   Douglas’s greatest passion was his family, a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather and great-grandfather.

Besides his parents, Douglas was predeceased by his daughter: Marcy Fancher; grandson: Steven Dylan Fancher; and a brother: Randy Fancher.

He is survived by his wife: Connie (Mattice) Fancher of Stamford; five children: Steven Fancher of Stamford, Christina Fancher of East Meredith, William (Jody) Fancher of Stamford, Matthew Fancher of Stamford, and Shawna (Frederick Gardener) Fancher of Harpersfield; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister: Diane (Jim) Williams of Conesville; brother: Daniel (Tammy) Fancher of South Kortright; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Douglas’s life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
