Obituary of Richard L. "Ric" Cammer
Richard "Ric" L. Cammer passed away at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown on September 14, 2023 after a brief illness.
Richard L. Cammer was born in Stamford hospital on June 29, 1949. He often joked that in his 70's he lived 500 yards from where he was born after traveling the world.
Ric graduated Stamford Central School in 1967 and joined the United States Navy. He often discussed one of his favorite experiences in the Navy was being stationed in Japan and learning about that country. After being honorably discharged he joined the New York Telephone family working as an installer to begin with but filling in various positions before an early retirement. He eventually joined the United States Government working for the State Department in dealing with communications in around the world including Russia and Hanio. He had many entertaining stories to share about his experiences learning to live in different cultures.
Upon retirement he returned to New York to be near his son, Jason Cammer. He first lived in Hobart and finally bought a home in Stamford, NY.
Ric learned at an early age the enjoyment of competitive shooting thanks to his father's encouragement and training. He became an excellent shooter in pistols and shotguns earning awards for both. He had many friends, but those who knew him remember him and Geoff Brandt being the entertainers whenever they were together.
Ric is survived by his son, Jason, grandson, Nick, a brother Randy in Iowa and many many friends around the world. He will be missed by trap shooters and pistol shooters all around the State of New York and other states where he made friends during competitions.
As per Ric's wishes, there will be no services. The Oneonta Sportsmen's Club will be having a celebration of Ric’s life and Pot Luck Dinner from 5-8PM on Saturday, October 21st for friends to share stories and love for an amazing man.
