Obituary of Violet June Hadley

Violet “Vi” June Hadley, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 12, 2023 at her home in Delhi surrounded by her loving family.

Violet fought a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. During the illness she enjoyed a steady flow of family and friends from both near and far. She was blessed to have her home health aids Joyce, June, and Brenda, who went above and beyond in ensuring she received the best care ever.

Violet was passionate about her faith and had a lifestyle of sharing that faith with everyone with whom she interacted. She was very active in church life, including investing heavily into the lives of her children, grandchildren, and others. She joyfully participated in Pioneer Girls, AWANA, VBS, Bible studies, and other church activities. Her home was the gathering place for countless holiday and other events, with her large family crowding in and enjoying sweet togetherness. She spent considerable time caring for grandchildren and great grandchildren, and always looked forward to their return as they grew into adulthood. Family life also extended outside the home, as Violet frequented family reunions and loved to visit others in their homes. She had a passion for novels, befriending several librarians, and sharing her house full of books with those around her. She loved the company of several cats and dogs through the years, including rides in the country with them at times.

Violet was born on June 7, 1930 to the late Harry and Lucy Zindle. She grew up on a family farm in Maryland, NY, and was especially close to her grandmother Ella Burnside, with whom she spent a lot of her time as a youngster. She married Cecil LaVerne Hadley on August 17, 1948 in Bovina, NY. She worked at the Delaware County Infirmary for a short time, then worked many years at SUNY Delhi.

Violet is survived by children David (Donna) Hadley of Raleigh, NC; Mary (Michael) Brady of Delhi; Esther (Paul) Baker of Delhi; Philip (Donna) Hadley of Delhi; Daniel Hadley of Phoenix, AZ; special nephew James (Jill) Hadley of High Ridge, MO; Timothy (Michelle) Hadley of Raleigh, NC; and Jonathon (Wendy) Hadley of Delhi. Surviving grandchildren include Lisa Gay; Christopher Hadley; Matthew Brady; Maria Helman; Mark Brady; Julie Morse; Jason Hadley; Josh Hadley; Kayla Zakeo; Debbie Hadley; Ethan Hadley; Taylor Hadley; Cooper Hadley; Emily Reisen; Katie Hadley; Jonathon Hadley, Jr.; Meghan Hadley; Benjamin Hadley; Charlotte Hadley; and 17 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Herb Zindle, Pansy Thomas, and Earl Zindle. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends, including good friend Cynthia.

She was predeceased by her husband Cecil; infant son Cecil, Jr.; son LaVerne; siblings Harry Zindle, Joan Howard, Dorothy Nobes, Rose Osborn, and Peter Ireland; and great grandson Aaron Tubbs.
