Obituary of Dennis D. Merwin

Dennis D. Merwin, 59, of Davenport, passed away at his home on Wednesday evening, September 15, 2021, surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on February 15, 1962 in Jefferson, Dennis was the son of the late Irving “Sonny” and Shirley (Stone) Merwin.

He started working for Eklund farm and then worked as a mechanic for Eklund’s Farm Machinery in Stamford retiring with over 30 years of service.  Dennis had an impeccable work ethic and loved being outdoors, tending to his horses or haying were some of his favorite places to be and was known for being a wheeler and dealer.

Besides his parents, Dennis was predeceased by a special uncle: Gary Merwin.

Dennis is survived by his wife: Teresa (Jones) Merwin of Davenport; children: Shawn (Brandy) Anderson of Jefferson, Jennifer (Owen) Buckler of Davenport, Larry (Robin) Merwin of Davenport and Rowena Smith of Albany; nine grandchildren: Destiny (Paul), Bryanna, Damien, Jordan, Dylan, Jaiden, Aubrey, Brendon and Forest; siblings: Debra (Larry) Bliss and Daniel (Joyce) Merwin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 2-6PM on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford, NY 12167

Dennis’s family would like to thank Bassett/Fox Oncology and radiation dept. for their exceptional care during Dennis’s illness, especially to Patty and Judy they held a special place in his heart.
