Obituary of Jorge Luis Ortega
Jorge Luis Ortega was born May 15, 1957 and passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2021, while enjoying one of many family adventures with his beloved wife Margie and sons Elijah and Ethan.
He is predeceased by his parents Miguel and Rosario of Havana Cuba.
Jorge was a Vietnam veteran and a member and past master of Oneonta Masonic Lodge.
He worked for Broome developmental center for 20 years in direct care.
Jorge’s hobbies consisted of playing his guitar, Warcraft, winemaking, and gardening. He was a wonderful caring free-spirited man who would do anything for anyone. He cherished his time with his “sidekick” Eli and “karate boy” Ethan. He also loved friends and family get togethers filled with laughter storytelling and fun.
He is survived by his wife: Margie Wunsch Ortega; his children: Jorge, Carlos, Jessica, Elijah and Ethan; grandson: Dylan; brother: Felipe (Marianela) Fernandez; sister: Yolanda (Hector) Hernandez; sisters-in-law: Laura McAteer and Lorraine (Russ) Cole; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Jorge’s request there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Autism Society.
