Obituary of Robert A. Sanford

Robert A. Sanford, 78, of Delhi passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Albany Medical Center.

Born on March 5, 1943 in Delhi, Robert was the son of the late Marion and Ellen (Zeller) Sanford.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1965-1967.

Mr. Sanford worked for over 33 years for NYSEG and retired as Chief Lineman in 2000.    

Robert was an avid NY Yankee’s Baseball fan.  He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and gardening were his passions. Bob could often be found tending to his garden and taking care of his home and property.

Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his brother: Richard Sanford; and brothers in law: Richard O’Hara and Richard Pearson.

He is survived by his wife: Mary of Delhi; sons: Alan R. Sanford of North Carolina and Steve (Jane Murphy) Simmons of Oneonta; grandchildren: Jordan, Alan Jr. and Colby Sanford, Taylor and Hunter Simmons; sisters: Susan Pearson of Delhi, Marie Parenteau of Florida and Ellen (Doug) Whittaker of East Meredith; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11AM on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Woodland Cemetery in Delhi, followed by a celebration of life and time of sharing at the Delhi American Legion.
