Obituary of Daniel P. VanDam

“Beloved husband, father, grandfather, good steward, man of the earth”

Daniel Pieter Van Dam was born on November 10, 1940 in Mount Hope, NY of Dutch parents, Enno Van Dam and Marjorie Zwart Van Dam, who immigrated from Uithuzen, Holland to dairy farm in Walden, NY.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Heather Yates Van Dam and their three children: Jessica Van Dam of Wilmington, NC; Jeremy Van Dam, his wife Paulette and their children Alliy, Daniel and Matthew of Edmond, OK; Daryl Van Dam, his wife Michelle and their children Dallas and Hunter of Cairo, NY. Dan is the fifth of seven children: Dorothea and Raymond (“Bud”) Guenther of Elizabethtown, KY, Dirk (now passed on) and Cami Van Dam and Paul and Elizabeth Van Dam, both of Walden, NY, Dean and Marjorie Wickeren of Paola, KS and Carol Morrison of Willow Springs, MS. Dan was the uncle of 32 nieces and nephews and 64 grand nieces and nephews.

Dan worked as an electrical contractor and Master Electrician for 40 years in his business, Van Dam Electric. He wired houses for G and M Construction and Vincent Biagini Homes, among others in the Hudson Valley. He was also an inventor of many landscaping and labor-saving machines and devices, from the age of fourteen on.

He and his wife were members of and served in Goodwill Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, NY for 36 years and in the last 12, Delhi Community Church.

Dan became a Christian at age 8 when he believed in Jesus Christ and took him as his Savior. His faith carried him through decades of a painful and disabling disorder. He was a perseverer and man of courage until the end. He is Home now and free of suffering, in the presence of his Lord.

Burial took place in Goodwill Cemetery, Montgomery, NY.
