Obituary of Martin A.A. Donnelly III

It is with great sadness that the family of Martin A.A Donnelly III announce that Marty has gone to be with his Lord. Marty passed away on January 4, 2021 after a brief but hard-fought illness.

Born on January 26, 1937 to Martin A.A. Donnelly II and Muriel C. (Dunbar) Donnelly.  Marty grew up and lived the first part of his life in Rosedale, Queens. In January of 1954 Marty joined the US Navy and was assigned to the U.S. S Kearsarge CVA 33. He was anchored in San Diego, Calif. He served on the Kearsarge until separated with an Honorable Discharge in 1958. Marty was passionate about the Navy and loved serving his country.

On May 10, 1958 Marty married his beloved childhood and high school sweetheart Yvonne B. Deveau.  One of Marty’s most famous stories to tell was that he met Yvonne when he was 11 years old and knew at that young age that they were destined to be together as soul mates.

Marty and Yvonne moved to West Babylon NY shortly after marrying and he worked various jobs until he joined Equitable Insurance as an Agent, not long after Marty opened his own Insurance Agency and ran that business for more than 50 years until retirement.

In the early 1980’s Marty and Yvonne moved to Andes, NY to be closer to family. He transitioned his business with him, and he started his life in the town and community that he loved. Along with his love of the military Marty always had a passion for public service. For many years that included being a volunteer fire fighter while living in West Babylon, being on political committees and many volunteer organizations.  

1998 Marty ran and was elected to serve as Andes Town Supervisor and his career as a public servant took off and lasted for 18 years. With serving as Andes Town Supervisor, Delaware County Board of Supervisors, Delaware County Finance Committee, Chairman as the Delaware County Board of Supervisors, Chairman of Delaware County Republican Party, Catskill Watershed Corporation- Board, Board of O’Connor Hospital, Board of the Andes Public Library and more.

Along with his insurance and public service work, Marty loved to travel with Yvonne especially to Florida with family and special friends, and to his beloved Ireland. But always looked forward to coming home to Andes. Marty was also passionate about horses, reading, collecting trains and stamp collecting.

 Marty was a one of kind, vibrant, and social man. He loved his community and the country he served proudly. Marty loved his wife Yvonne, his family, and his friends passionately.

His kind heart and contagious smile will be greatly missed to all that knew and loved him.

Marty is predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert Donnelly, sisters Helen Thompson, Joy Bouton, and daughter-in-law Margret- Carroll- Donnelly.

Marty is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Yvonne, son Marty Jr (Audrey) Donnelly, son Michael (Marianne) Donnelly, son Steven Donnelly, daughter Margaret Donnelly, daughter Ellen (Keith) Mable.

Marty is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelly Nellums, Sean Donnelly, Kaitlyn Donnelly, Timothy Donnelly, Kelsey Donnelly, Allie Mable, Jack Mable, Megan Donnelly, Kristin Donnelly, Gia Donnelly, Chris, and Brian. His 3 great grandchildren, many beloved nephews, with a special place for John (Sandy) Bouton, his nieces, and cousins.

There will never another like Marty Donnelly. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

Services locally will be held at 1PM on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Andes Cemetery followed by a celebration of life and time of shareing to at Andes Fire Dept. Pavilion.
