Barbara Laurine Peet

Condolences
I was so sorry to hear of Barb's passing. We so enjoyed our daily walks when she would visit Sydney Mines each year. We shared many a cup of tea and laughs and kept in touch with letters and phone calls through the years. It was nice to get to view her funeral...we often went to church together when she visited and I went to her church in Florida once on a visit.
She was a wonderful person who will be missed. Sending my condolences to her family.

Hi Robert and family,
I feel I have lost a very great friend in your mother, grandmother..
Your Mom was my Godmother Ethel's sister and we got introduced very early on when we started spending our winters in Fl.. While she was very active in those early days we would drive up every few weeks to spend the day with her. After he 100th birthday (I made her cake) and she stopped driving and was home more I started going up every other Sunday and bringing dinner to have with her. She loved soup and baked custard which I brought with me for her week. She made it quite clear to me she didn't like rice in her soup so it was made with barley.. Latterly we spent our time listening to music and singing. When I arrived she'd ask if I brought that thing with me, - the iPad-, as she like to look up all the old songs with Vera Lynn etc. to sing. Because I stopped driving at night and because I would be to tired to drive back to Gulfport I would stay over night with her. Of course she insisted I sleep with her and she would cuddle in. She said she slept better that way.
We had some wonderful times together and even when I was back in NL for summers we would talk every week. Two weeks before she passed she remined me to bring cherries for her cake in January. She was very alert even that week and we were able to have a good chat. I spoke to her about 30 minutes before she passed and although she didn't speak, I knew she was listening as every not and then she would grunt.
It was such a great pleasure to have met her and was able to spend time with her.
Blessings Barbara
Our sincere condolences to Rob, Sylvia and all the extended family on the passing of a dear mother ,grand mother, and great mother..Our beloved Barb, my dearest cousin, was a treasure chest of fond memories of the Harvey family and all our relatives, of present and past years. Barb was blessed with memory beyond comparison and our frequent "chats" always drifted back to the bygone years of memories of home, St. John's, Newfoundland, punctuated by familiar music. We will miss her presence dearly. May Barb rest in peace.
God Bless. Derek, Leah and all the Harvey family..
My sincerest condolences to the whole family. Barbara was an exceptional person and I felt very honoured to take part in her 100th birthday celebration, together with my late husband Bob and my daughter Desiree.

Barbara remains etched in my memory as a truly remarkable woman. A strong woman indeed. A lady full of life and experiences. It was my pleasure spending the year with her and getting to know her. She was well loved by both family and friends. We will all miss you big Barbara Peet.
Barbara and I have been friends and neighbors for many years. It has been a pleasure to know her. Bar was a wonderful lady, friendly, hospitable, and a lot of fun; her door always open to friends, family, and neighbors.. Bar could recite ditties, poetry, and knew at least 3 verses of all the Christmas carols. She would break into song, with the least provocation, should you happen to say something that was in any way reminiscent of some line in a song.Barbara especially loved company, reading a good book, knitting, eating chocolate and watching Jeopardy, followed by Bill O’Reily; I’m not sure in what order. I can see her house from mine and can’t believe she is no longer there. I believe she is with loved ones who were anticipating her arrival, probably for some time. Bless us all. She will be sorely missed here in Holiday.
I had the honor of meeting Barbara Peet via my friendship with distant acquaintance of Barbara’s family Barbara welcomed me into her world as if we had known each other for a long time, in her caring way. Barbara was a strong and devout woman, her 100th birthday party displayed her love of family, friends and her beloved Newfoundland. Rest In Peace dear lady.

What a wonderful extended family Barbara had ! I was fortunate to meet Barbara in 2009. We were friends ever since then and spent many hours just visiting. She was so proud of her family and I heard many funny and wonderful stories. We loved talking about the books we read. I think she loved life more than anyone I've ever known and she lived it to the fullest as long as she was able. I will miss her dearly.
My condolences to her family and many friends and her blessed caregivers.

Barbara was a wonderful neighbor. When we first moved to Holiday she would take my wife to go swimming with her in the Gulf. Barbara was 88 at the time. We will miss her.
Trudy and I send heart-felt condolences to you and family on the passing of your mother. While it is never easy to lose a loved one, 105 years of life, love and memories is quite the legacy to leave behind. Best wishes!
Aunt Bar was a beautiful soul. I loved her visits home to Newfoundland as a child. She would bring trinkets from her travels, my favourite being an elephant from India. She made the most delicious steamed blueberry pudding, of which she shared the recipe with me a few years ago. I hadn't spoken with her in several months so she had been on my mind a lot as of late. She will be missed, but most of all, she will be remembered.
With all my love,
Leah Paice (Dawe)
God bless you Aunt Bar, you've sure lived a full and wonderful life inspiring us all. I often told people of you, your spirit, and longevity and how I hope I just have a small touch of the same in me......I can still see that unassuming smile of yours. Rest easy you've more then earned it and I can still recite Uncle Arch's rhyme......just dont ask me to spell it. Condolences to the family. Love Billy, Tina, Mackenzie and Declan Kennedy. CBS, NL

To Robert and Family
It is not often that you have the pleasure and honour of knowing someone who has lived to be 105 years old! We remember flying down to Holiday to be there for Auntie Barr’s 100th birthday party when she recognized all her relatives and friends from Newfoundland, Canada, the United States of America and even from Germany. Before cutting her birthday cake, she insisted we all stand and she led us in song, singing the national anthems of the USA, Canada, The Ode to Newfoundland and as she didn’t know the words of the German Anthem...she hummed the tune while her German family sang.
Auntie Barr was a font of knowledge of all things Newfoundland and of the Peet family history. Someone who loved life to the fullest, swam till she was 96 and still owned a drivers licence that was valid until she turn 105 in January 2020. She loved her family and friends with all her heart! She often questioned why she was “still here” and often stated that she had no “aches or pains” until she turned 95! Sandra, in particular will truly miss Auntie Barr’s chats, her stories and her songs. She was a Great Lady! She will truly be missed. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most stressful time. God Bless!

I had the honor of meeting my lovely cousin Barbara for the first time at her 100th birthday party in 2015. I had heard of her over the years as my dad always spoke so very fondly of her but I had never met her. My father, my two sisters and I visited from Canada for her milestone birthday! A celebration I will never forget! I was so thrilled to be a part of such a joyous occasion. We stayed in touch after that visit and she so enjoyed having a chat as did I. She would tell me stories of her childhood in Newfoundland and she would often sing me a song over the phone. My dad was 85 the year we travelled to Florida for her birthday and I was so thankful he was able to make that long journey. We had a wonderful visit with Barb a few days after her birthday party and they shared many stories and memories. He passed in 2018 and I like to think he and beautiful Barbara are now sitting together sharing stories and having a laugh. Godspeed Barbara you wonderful soul. I am so happy to have met you. From my family here in Newfoundland and across Canada we send our love to Barbara’s family as we celebrate and give thanks for her blessed long life. May her soul Rest In Peace and perpetual light shine upon her.
