Dear Margie, Kari, Harold and Kaia - Your husband, your father Harold was a good man through and through. A man who struck me as a quiet, humble presence at family events over the years when I got to see him and speak with him. I have an impression in my memory of seeing him standing off to the side of all the action (did he have a camera?) at family gatherings, appearing to marvel at what he saw before him in the family he had created and into which he had married. Some of us in the family were a little, maybe a lot, wilder than him, more loquacious and even loud, but he resided on the quiet side. He was accepting with that hint of a smile on his face. He just seemed pleased with the world he inhabited. He seemed happy to be here. There was a reserve about him that intimated depth of character, not needing to be the life of the party. Thank you for sharing the funeral and photo videos. They were beautiful tributes to Uncle Harold, and I’m thankful we were able to experience the music, stories and most especially love, even though it was from Colorado. I have so many memories of Uncle Harold — always together with Aunt Margie, Kari, Kaia and Harold Wm— over the years. Growing up, I looked forward to our family visits to your house in Sufferin because I knew it would be filled with fun and laughter. I am thankful that we got to celebrate so many special occasions together - holidays, weddings, baptisms and the list goes on. I will miss Uncle Harold and his kindness, sense of humor and compassion. Our thought and prayers are with all of you. Love, Tricia

Grown-ups who are kind to you, and make you laugh, as a child leave a lasting impression on a person. Mr. Haugeto did that for me. I remember his rousing performances on the accordion and laughing at so many of his terrible jokes. He was always a caring and sweet presence when I visited Kari. I know he touched many others in the same inimitable way. Such a loss is really cruel, and I wish love and comfort for Mrs. Haugeto, Kari, Harold and Kaia & families, Sending hugs and many fond memories of a wonderful man.

Sending a great big hug from us all in England, wishing we could be with you now. The 3 brothers were always larger than life, always sharing laughter and great adventures including a trip to Norway unsupervised by their wives or children. Growing up with my cousins, we shared many happy visits and camping vacations, the best at Wolf Hollow as the barn was slowly renovated for habitation starting with the kitchen -a warm oasis on a frigid morning. Or my Dad (Robert) scaring the deer (he was sat in a chair but obviously not quiet enough) Uncle Harold and Tore were trying to stalk. Uncle Harold was a great man. I remember all the good times my family had in Suffern, NY visiting. Uncle Harold was always there to capture all of moments with his camera and VCR. I still have the Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle photo he gave me hanging in my office. He will be dearly missed by all the Carmodys.

Harold and his brother Tore shared a very special bond in life. Both loved Norway, Nature, and Nokkelost. They would forever discuss "important matters" about history, politics, and religion. Now both are in Heaven and may continue their special brotherly bonding.

Our deepest condolences to Margie, Kari, Harold and Kaia from Inger and Kjetil and our family in Norway. We are so sorry for your loss. We have so many good memories from visits in our home and in Gjerstad at the Haugeto farm. We were so looking forward to a Haugeto gathering in our home last summer, when Harald was planning a new Norway tour with Margie.

Harald was a true gentleman and a true Haugeto all his life. We felt he allways kept his connection to Norway and he told us that he and Margie baked Norwegian cookies every Christmas. He also still remembered the Norwegian language. He was always curious about all around him in nature, we always had to go for a walk into the Haugeto forests when visiting Norway.

Ours sons will always remember the great hospitality Harald and Margie showed them through their many visits - both in Suffern and Vegard also to Andes, Wolf Hollow. Øyvind and Lars went up to the Barn with you all in summertime. Good memories.

Saddened to hear of Uncle Harold’s passing. May you find comfort in your memories and peace knowing he is no longer suffering. The video montage was beautiful—a great snapshot of Uncle Harold’s life. Growing up, Thanksgiving was my favorite holiday getting together with our grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Uncle Harold was the family cameraman and later became the family supplier of delicious maple syrup. But mostly, he gave our family unconditional love and kindness.
