Obituary of Mary E. Williams
Mary E. Williams, 73, of Stamford, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home.
Born on July 30, 1946 in Margaretville, Mary was the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine Mabey.
Mary was married to John Gary Williams of Hopewell Junction on October 7, 1972 in Stamford, NY
She was a 1964 graduate of Stamford Central School and attended both Hartwick College and the Kathrine Gibbs Secretarial School in Providence, RI.
Mary first worked as Executive Secretary for the Sister in Charge of St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany. After married Gary she had several secretarial jobs. Their home was in Beekman, NY, until 2008, when she retired with over 20 years as executive secretary at the corporate office of First Brands (makers of STP & Preston) of Danbury, Ct, which later was acquired by Honeywell. Following her retirement Mary and Gary built their home in Stamford, back to the beloved town that she grew up in, Mary had found memories of her childhood home and often talked about her dog Maggi.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. Mary was a member of the Stamford-Hobart Inner Wheel.
Mary was a gifted quilter only doing 100 percent hand stitched quilts. She also loved flowers, at her home in both Beekman and Stamford her yard was filled with daffodils and daylilies. One hybrid daylily was named the Mary E. in her honor by Gary.
She enjoyed playing the trumpet, guitar and piano, Mary also enjoyed listening to 4 part a capella harmony and attended may live concerts around the North East. She had a passion for history, and was member of the Stamford, Hobart and Gilboa Historical Societies and enjoyed visiting historical sites, homes and museums.
Mary enjoyed traveling and took several cross-country road trips in her retirement and has been to 47 states. Her favorite vacation place was Qgunquit, ME, where she visited twice yearly for the past 47 years, Mary enjoyed the sea view.
Besides her husband Gary, she is survived by her sister: Paula (George) Chase of East Falmouth, MA; sister-in-law: Janice (Peter) Xeller of Delmar; nephews: Sean (Diane) Chase of Bridgewater, MA; Daniel Xeller of Charleston, SC; one niece: Catherine Xeller Eksterowicz of Franklin Square, NY; grandnieces and nephews: Ben, Allie and Johann.
Private services were and burial was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford with Rev. Michael Cambi officiating.
