Obituary of Hildegard "Hilde" Fink
Hildegard “Hilde” Fink, 87, of Hobart passed peacefully with her family at her side on March 12, 2020.
Born January 8, 1933 in Freistadt, Austria, Hilde was the daughter of the late Johann and Franziska Mader. It was when she moved to the United Kingdom that she met and fell in love with her late husband Alois “Louie” Fink. They immigrated to the United States in 1960 soon after having their child, Caroline.
In New York, they owned and operated a German Deli on the Upper East Side, later moving the business to Elmhurst, Queens. In 1987, Louie and Hilde moved upstate to Hobart, NY and lived the life they had always dreamt of.
Hilde enjoyed her life in the Catskills. She could be found riding her lawn tractor, gardening, and enjoying the company of the wildlife. Hilde was never one to sit idle. She was a 25+ year member of the Stamford/Harpersfield Senior Club, where she made many friends. She was a strong-willed, independent woman who enjoyed life. She was an avid reader and talented knitter and cook. Hilde most enjoyed the time she spent with her family; taking care of the koi fish, listening to music, and storytelling by the fire.
Hilde was predeceased by her husband, Alois Fink, her brother, Gustav Mader, and her son-in-law, Josip Boneta. Hildegard is survived by her sisters, Vera Traxler and Linda Ruegg, her daughter, Caroline Boneta, and her granddaughters, Amanda Boneta and Denise Boneta.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 4-7pm on Wednesday, March 18 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford, NY 12167.
