Obituary of Robert B. Preston

Robert B. Preston, 91, of South Kortright, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Albany Medical Center. Born on June 22, 1928 in Roxbury, Robert was the son of the late Kenneth and Ruth (Grill) Preston. He proudly served in the US Airforce from 1946-1949 during WWII, following his honorable discharge he attended college and then went on to nearly 35 year career in education, first teaching Physical Education in Treadwell, then to teach science at South Kortright Central School, working with BOCES and finally retiring as Principal of Margaretville Central School. Following his career in education, Bob worked for Graham Laboratory in Hobart and finally retired from what is today Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals in his 70’s During his teaching career Mr. Preston enjoyed coaching several sports and also refereed soccer games. One of his greatest joys was golf, he was an avid golfer and member of Stamford Golf Club. Robert also enjoyed meeting up with his friends at the Coffee Pot for a cup of coffee in the morning. He was also an avid South Kortright Central School sports fan. Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by two wives: Freda Christian Preston and Florence Conine Hoyt Preston; and a brother: John Preston. He is survived by his sons: Stephen Preston of Cicero and Michael (Kathy) Preston of Trout Creek; granddaughter: Alexandra (Paul) Mandart of Bridgeport; one sister: Margaret Reynolds of Illinois; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from noon-2PM on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford. A gathering will immediately follow at Don’s Dairy Supply, hosted by close friends of the family Don and Deb, 349 Roses Brook Road, South Kortright.
