Obituary of Robert D. Kaufman
Robert D. Kaufman, a lifelong local area resident, died on Saturday morning, February 24, 2018 at his home in Delhi.
Born on June 20, 1929 in Delhi, Robert was the son of the late Kenneth and Edna (Russell) Kaufman. Following graduation from Delaware Academy, he was drafted by the US Army and sent to Korea to serve during the Korean War, spending 18 months there.
Robert attended SUNY Oneonta and Cornell University and taught elementary education for the Delhi Elementary School/Delaware Academy for 27 years until his retirement from teaching in 1987. He went on to start a small engine repair business and plant nursery. He loved experimenting with plant propagation and gardening. He also enjoyed raising miniature schnauzer puppies.
He was a member of the Delhi American Legion and the Tri-County Dance Club.
Mr. Kaufman was predeceased by three brothers: Everett, Russell and Glen Kaufman.
Robert is survived by his children: Sandra (Richard) Timmons, Robert (Karen) Kaufman, Pamela (Kevin) Timmons, Lauri Rupracht and Theresa (Mike) Lynn; twelve grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are invited to call on the family from 4-7PM on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Delhi, where a funeral service and time of sharing will follow at 7PM with Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place in the spring at Bovina Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Robert may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care.
