Condolences
Bonnie, the video is as wonderful as it is remarkable. Prayers and blessings to you and Jack's family.
I went to school with Jack for many years and was always in awe of his ability to seemingly effortlessly learn whatever he wanted to learn. Over the years I often wondered what he was doing with his life and was so glad to learn that his life was so full of helping others. Rest In peace, old friend. God has welcomed you into His Kingdom with open arms.
I am very sorry to hear about Jack, however, thank you for publishing the obituary in the Towanda paper. Jack was a good friend to my older brothers, Todd and Ken Wizelman. While I did not know him well, my brothers always described him as "brilliant." It was wonderful to see all that he has accomplished in his life, personally and professionally. I am so glad he found happiness and success after leaving Towanda and serving in Vietnam. He made wonderful contributions to his Pennsylvania community as well. Fond memories.
I had the pleasure of working at Delaware Opportunities with John. I had a lot of respect for him. Before I left DO I had a conversation with him. It was at that time, that he told me he graduated from Towanda. My parents are from PA and my father went to Towanda too. John was quiet and I had never had a conversation with him that wasn't about work until that day. He made such a difference in so many lives. He will be missed.
John's was a quiet yet powerful presence serving to enhance the quality of life in Delaware County and beyond. Through his leadership Delaware Opportunities established itself as one of the most effective rural Community Action Programs in the State. I consider myself very fortunate to have known and worked with John for almost three decades in a partnership developing programs that assisted people in need. I admit that most of the time I was the Junior partner. John was blessed with a compassionate soul, a hard driven work ethic, and a deep understanding of the complexities of the human condition. I will miss John, his sagacity, his humor, his wit, his example. For those left behind, my close friend Bonnie, her family and John's family, and the "DO" family, I would like to share my condolences. His service is a noble legacy reminding us of what our existence on this plane is truly about.
Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers for all the family and staff at Delaware Opportunities in the loss of your loved one and leader. Our staff at Cornell Cooperative Extension and I want to thank you for helping to make life better for those in need as John did and to cherish the great memories of living and working with John. May God Bless and keep you!
John was an extraordinary partner in providing family and individual support services to thousands of Delaware County residents. In my years of working with him (from his appointment in 1984 till my retirement at the end of 2014) he stands alone and above all others in seeking appropriate, effective and life sustaining services to the challenged, the needy, the young, the old and the disadvantaged. John was driven by an elevated sense of purpose that life in Delaware County could and should be better. John was quiet in his demeanor but his compassion, understanding and dedication to his missions was always over the top, strength driven and a model for other public administrators to follow. Over the years I trusted John's insight, experience and steadfast commitment to excellence as we shared in the delivery of more than 30 different programs to Delaware County residents (and recently Sullivan County residents too!). John, I miss you in a way only a qualified admirer can fully appreciate. Your legacy to Delaware County will live on. May those who follow your path capture that special spirit and drive that was your hallmark.
To Bonnie and family~~
I worked with John on many mutual committees and projects in my 30 years at DSS. John's commitment and knowledge had that agency flourishing. He was so adept at getting the needed support for D.O. He also cemented the relationship between the two agencies , making them bonded rather than adversarial. He will be sorely missed.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss--not only to your family, but to the Delaware County family. John was one of the great Executive Directors in the community action network and I will surely miss him. He was a member of the NYS Community Action Association's Board of Directors and always had keen insight and words of wisdom to share with the board. I will miss him as I'm sure many in the network work will. God bless you and your family during this very painful time.
Dear Bonnie and Family Members:
You are in my thoughts and prayers at this very sad time of loss. John was indeed a leader and I have fond memories of working at D.O. with him many years ago. He served his county with true dedication, making life so much better for many.
Holding you in my heart. Rosemary
I always thought of my brother-in-law, John Eberhard, as a Renaissance man. He was someone who could talk intelligently and articulately on a variety of topics. He was comfortable conversing with a Board CEO about topics of budget or politics, talking to his mother-in-law about books or enjoying conversation with a patron at the Shire pub. He had an excellent mind with a good sense of humor to match. Like a true Renaissance man, John had a variety of interests and talents. John could also have that kid-like aspect to his personality. I'll never forget when, as a middle age man who had undergone surgeries, we got him out on a inner tube behind a boat on Otsego Lake ( and it didn't take much convincing). John will be deeply missed!
We are devastated to learn of John's passing and cannot fathom the loss you, Bon, and John's family must feel. We will miss our brother-in-law so very much. Shared many good memories and adventures with John (aka "Sweet Potato") and you, Bon. Always had plenty of laughs and good times. Will never forget the side trip he insisted on making to see the Floral Clock near Niagara Falls. It was something of a bust, but well worth the laughs we all had together. We picked on Johnny only because we loved him, however, his dry and intelligent wit made him a worthy adversary. Sure wish we had more time to share love and laughter with him. John was family, and will be forever in our hearts.
Aunt Bon,
I was so sorry to hear about the unexpected loss of John the other night. We will all miss him so much, and I know he had a tremendous impact on my life and everyone else around him. For almost my whole life it has been "Aunt Bon and John", and I know I had so many great times with you both; whether it was visiting you in Delhi when I was little, having pool days at my house, or holidays at Grandma's. I attached a picture that I've been looking at a lot since I heard the news, it's one that I really think shows how much fun I had with John and the light and joy he was able to add into the lives of those around him. I love you Aunt Bon, and we are all here for you right now and always!
Love,
Andrew

Sorry to hear of this loss. My Dad worked for John for a few years running the weatherization program at DO, and I know he thought a lot of john and they had a great relationship - some based on both being Vietnam Vets. I did get the opportunity to meet John a couple of times. Passionate guy - he did so much for DO and the area. Prayers for his family.
John's passing is a great loss to our entire community. Thinking especially of you, Bonnie, during this most difficult time. Love, Pat
