From the members of the Bloomville Fire Dept.
Opie - You touched so many lives in so many different ways. If you weren't cracking a joke at some dumb thing I had done, you were single-handedly lifting Laura's horse onto the trailer when she didn't want to go.
I certainly learned to not worry quite so much and to laugh a lot more from you. Thank you for being part of my life.
I have to say growing up with this man around he always had that great smile and always knew how to make you laugh!
As we would drive anywhere as a young girl I would always hope to see him working on the road, because you knew he would always give you that great wave as he smiled!
God gained a great angel!
So sorry for all of his family. We have been friends since we started school together. and his parents were close friends with my aunt and uncle John and Lucille Rice and he was also a good friend of my husband and now Austin and my great grand daughter Lena are in school together he was a great person who will be greatly missed by many
I will always remember Larry and his long friendship with my husband, George. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and have a good laugh. There are few men who compare to him.
My sympathy to the entire Hillis family. RIP Larry.
My family is so sorry for your loss. Larry was beloved by all of us, he was one of the first people we got to know when we moved here 24 years ago thanks to Harry and Paula Nissan our neighbors. I taught Auto Tech at the Boces and looked forward to seeing and talking with him every day on his Napa delivery route. What a beautiful soul he was, bigger then life itself, and a heart that had no boundaries. My daughter Melissa so loved Larry throughout her school career riding with him each morning and knowing and seeing that he cared about all of the kids safe arrival meant everything to him. I could go on and on about the beautiful encounters with Larry at school, at the fair, at parties at our house or the Nissans, but one thing that's for sure, a day without seeing Larry was a day without sunshine. Our hearts ache with the passing of such a great soul. God Bless, and my family Teri, Melissa, and Bob will always keep that huge smile in our hearts.
I have worked with Larry at SK for years and enjoyed every minuet. He loved and encouraged all the kids everyday.
One of the best memory's was watching him as Santa Clause at the Hobart Hardware, he was a natural. Rest Peacefully Larry.
My prayers and condolences to your family. Larry was a fabulous man, he will be truly missed.
Larry was a great guy. He would always help Harry Nissen's tech classes get their sheds from the school to whoever purchased them, and it was always a good time. Man he was great for a laugh, I was just a young buck when I knew him but what a great guy, he will be missed greatly. My thoughts and condolences go out to the family.
You have our deepest sympathies ... love to you all. Amy, Rebekah, Rachel, Matthew, Joshua & Lydia
