Obituary of Gladys Lay

BOVINA CENTER Gladys Lay, 86, of Bovina Center, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi, with her family by her side. She was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Bovina Center, the daughter of Andrew and Sophia C. (Larsen) Reinertsen. She married Clark G. Lay on November 29, 1946, in Bovina Center. He predeceased her on December 29, 2004. A life-long area resident, Gladys worked for many years at the Buena Vista Motel for Velma Clark and also spent many years as a baker for CADI in the bake shop at SUNY Delhi. Many will remember Gladys for her delicious baked goods. Several of her family members were fortunate enough to have wedding cakes made by Gladys. She was a member of the Bovina United Presbyterian Church, the Bovina Senior Citizens group and volunteer at the Open Door in Delhi. Gladys is survived by 4 daughters, Tanya and Larry Jones, Marcia and Bill Bagley, Marlene Lay, and Denise and John VanDusen; grandchildren, Gretchen, John, Bill, Jason, Brian, Joshua and Benjamin; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Caitlynn, Klara, and Mason; sisters Thelma Andreason and Edna Kelly; sisters in law, Mildred Reinertsen and Eleanor Youngs; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by brothers, Sigurd, Robert, Leif, Art and Walt; and a sister, Ethel Swantak. Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Bovina United Presbyterian Church, Bovina Center, with Judi Gage, CLP officiating. Burial will take place in Bovina Cemetery, Bovina Center.
