Obituary of Alex S. Markus

EAST MEREDITH _ Alex S. Markus, 69, of East Meredith, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 15, 1942, son of the late Joseph and Barbara Markus. He was also predeceased by his brother, Joseph and his brother, Steven Sr., and his wife, Lillian. Alex served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966. He was a member of the Delhi American Legion Post 0190. On Oct. 1, 1966, he married Doris Olsen. Alex was a mechanic with Delhi Motors for nearly 39 years before retiring. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Doris; and their four children and families, John (Kim) and sons, Jordan and Philip of Otego, Thomas (Connie) and daughter, Samantha of East Meredith, Susan Smith (Special Friend Anthony Gardner) and daughter, Paiten and son, Alexander of Davenport; Artur J. known as A.J. from Buffalo, and a grandson, Devon Smith, from Schenevus. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Kenneth Olsen of Bloomville; and a sister-in-law, Kay Olsen of Greene; as well as many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in North Kortright Cemetery, North Kortright.
