Obituary of James Richard Powell

WALTON James Richard Powell, 83, of Walton, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville. He was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Gilboa, the son of Jacob and Annis (McMurdy) Powell. James worked as a dairy farmer and was employed by several farms throughout Delaware County. He is survived by a daughter, Millie Cronk of Delhi; daughter, Dorothy Mattice of Stamford; a brother, Cecil (Jake) and Barbara Powell of Colonial Beach, VA; a granddaughter, Susan and Eric Williamson of Mt. Gilead, NC; 3 great grandchildren, Samantha, Eric Jr., and Carly; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Richard James Powell; 2 sisters, Katie Scudder and Florence Clapper; and a grandson Joseph John Effner, Jr. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. Donations in James' memory are asked to be sent to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, PO Box 88, Delhi, NY 13753.
