Obituary of Gregory L. Hillis
HARPERSFIELD _ Gregory Hillis, 57, of Harpersfield, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at home.
He was born Aug. 16, 1954, in Stamford, the son of Duane and Lillian E. (Eisel) Hillis.
A graduate of South Kortright Central School in the Class of 1972, Gregory was a lumberjack and concrete worker by trade and worked all over the country. Right after graduating from high school he left and first settled in Shelton, Wash., and then in Plummer, Idaho, where he learned and respected the Native American Customs, only returning to this area 10 years ago.
He is survived by a brother, Michael (Carolyn) Hillis of Hobart; and uncle, Charles and aunt, Shirley Dibble, and aunt, Betty Schmitt; cousins, Gary, Larry and Steve Schmitt, Roxanne Jochem, and Roger, Rodney and Robin Dibble, and Chris Hillis; two nieces, Carrie Funk and Melissa Wright; and a special friend, Monica Pavis.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, with Pastor Lorraine Coscia-Ackerman officiating.
Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care.
