Obituary of Stanley Mollevik

DAVENPORT _ Stanley Mollevik, 76, of Davenport, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at home. He was born Jan. 28, 1936, in Brooklyn, the son of Sverre and Thordis (Andreassen) Mollevik. He married Barbara Ballard on Oct. 1, 1961, in Oneonta. As a teenager, Stan came to upstate New York through the Farm Cadet program to work on area dairy farms. He later moved to Davenport permanently and eventually owned and operated his own dairy farm on Buck Road in Davenport. In 1969, he sold his dairy farm and returned to heavy construction work until his retirement in 1989, for health reasons. In retirement, Stan enjoyed setting up trips for senior citizen groups and his friends. He was actively involved with an exercise group until his death. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and special friends, Ken and Elaine Sickler. Stan enjoyed membership in Davenport Senior Citizens, St. Mary's Young at Heart, Knights of Columbus, Reminiscers Car Club, Health Links, Dockbuilders Local No. 1456, and St. Mary's Church, Oneonta. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Mollevik at home; a son, David Mollevik and wife Susan of Duanesburg; two daughters, Mary London of Davenport, and Debra Moorby and husband Christopher of Davenport; grandchildren, Nicole Kosier, Syracuse, Nathan and Kyle Moorby, Davenport, Michael, Andrew and John Mollevik, Duanesburg; and a nephew, Mike Mollevik of Colorado. His parents; two brothers, Harry and John Mollevik; a son-in-law, Mark London; and beloved "little man," Prancer, predeceased him. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Davenport Church of the Charlotte Valley Greater Parish, Davenport, with the Rev. Carol Wilson officiating. Burial will follow the service in Davenport Cemetery, Davenport. Contributions in his memory may be made to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
