Obituary of Grover C. Townsend
DELHI
Grover C. Townsend, 89, of Delhi, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012, at home.
He was born in Denver, Colo., on July 27, 1922, the son of Charles W. and Ruth (Thomas) Townsend.
He married Jean Every on Oct. 20, 1946, in Delhi, she predeceased him July 3, 2010.
A veteran of the United States Army he served during World War II and continued to serve in the National Guard. He worked as a Letter Carrier at Delhi Post Office and as a meat cutter at Ole's store in Andes for many years.
Mr. Townsend was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church in Delhi; 65 year member of the Masons; a charter member of Delhi Golf Course; graduate of Delaware Academy, Delhi, and enjoyed woodcarving and crossword puzzles.
He is survived by five children, Thomas and Timothy, and Jamie (Thomas) MacNaught of Delhi, Daniel of Minnesota, and Jeffrey (Michelle) of Texas; seven grandchildren, Eli (Michele) Townsend, Ian Townsend, Daniel-Jon Townsend, Sarah Townsend, Jessica Townsend, Josh MacNaught and Damon (Shayna) MacNaught; two great-grandchildren, Caelon Townsend and Avery Townsend.
He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years; parents; and brothers, Robert Thomas Townsend and Burdette David Townsend.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Darius Mojallali.
There will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
