Obituary of Thomas J. Townsend

Thomas J. Townsend, 69, of Delhi passed away on Monday evening, May 9, 2016 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. Born on May 4, 1947 in Delhi, the son of the late Grover C. and Jean (Every) Townsend. Thomas was a 1965 graduate of Delaware Academy where he participated in a variety of sports including Tennis, Track and Wrestling. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1966-1970. Tom came back to Delhi where he then graduated from SUNY Delhi in 1972 and enlisted in the US Air Force and served from 1972 until his honorable discharge in 1979 attaining the rank of Master Sgt. He worked for the National Weather Service as a Hydro-meteorological Technician in Johnson City. Tom enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, he was an avid reader and an accomplished artist. He also had two cats, affectionately known as Lucy and Ricky. He is survived by his siblings: Timothy of Delhi, Jamie (Thomas) MacNaught of Delhi, Daniel of Nevada and Jeffrey (Michelle) of Texas; nieces & nephews: Eli(Michele) Townsend, Ian (Laura) Townsend, Daniel Jon Townsend, Sarah Townsend, Jessica Townsend, Josh MacNaught and Damon (Shayna) MacNaught; grandnieces & nephew: Caelon, Avery and Emily Grace Townsend and Phoebe and Winifred MacNaught; Memorial services will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, May 18 at St. John's Episcopal Church, Delhi with the Rev. Darius Mojallali celebrant. There will be no calling hours.
